Meet the Teachers of Family Music Time

Our teachers come from all sorts of backgrounds, but they’re united by a common passion: Sharing the joy of music with children and families in Ft. Myers and all of Lee County, Florida!

All teachers have successfully completed the live Music Together® Teacher Training, which is built on research in early childhood and music development. We keep our skills fresh through workshops every semester and advanced trainings offered by Music Together Worldwide.

LouAnne, Director/Teacher: I came to Music Time with many years of early childhood and music experience. I have always enjoyed working with children and families as you can see from my past experiences!

I taught preschool at 1st United Methodist Preschool for five years and then worked as the Director of McGregor Baptist Preschool for six years. I also enjoyed leading the music program for 3, 4, and 5 years olds at 1st United Methodist Preschool and Briarcliff Baptist Preschool for three years. I then started a piano studio and taught piano privately for nine years! I was also the pianist at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church on DeLeon St. for 6 years. My biggest passion by far, though, is teaching the Music Together classes!

I have been a registered teacher for Music Together since August 2006. Additionally, in July 2008 I was awarded Certification Level 1 from the Center for Music and Young Children, in Princeton, NJ having demonstrated outstanding achievement in teaching, musicianship, program philosophy and parent education. I also completed Certification Level 2 in 2013.

I absolutely love sharing this incredible music program with families all over Lee County! I love how this program impacts grandparents, parents, and children and brings them together in a way nothing else can! It literally changes lives!

My email is: director@familymusictime.com

I started out as a parent just like you in a class that I absolutely loved! Learning about this awesome way to connect with my baby, while wiring her brain with so much more than just music was something I am still so thankful for.

Being able to share this gift I was given with other parents to add to their parenting toolbox is so special to me! I am not a music major, just a mom who grew up in a family that loves to sing. As far back as I can remember, I've always loved working with little ones. From babysitting to assistant teaching in an infant and toddler classroom, I have really learned a lot about this age group in particular. This job is the best of both worlds, as I get to be around little ones while connecting with the grownups that love them!

I grew up with a musical family. My mom played the guitar and sang songs often, and during our frequent trips to grandma's house, I would hear my uncle play the piano and guitar. Music quickly became an important companion in my life. I sang in choirs for 10 years, took voice lessons, and have dabbled in playing some instruments (French horn, guitar, bass, and now ukulele). I grew up in northern Illinois, and my friends and I loved to take the train into Chicago and see our favorite bands play. Live music experiences have always been very inspiring and captivating for me.

I got a Bachelor's in Child Development and Psychology, and a Master's in Family and Child Studies and Women's Studies at Northern Illinois University. I fell in love with Early Childhood Education when I began teaching in 2010. I moved to Fort Myers with my sister in 2014 and began teaching at a Montessori school. I've always loved to make up little songs in the classroom with my students to help with transitions and rule reminders. I completed my Montessori teacher training in 2016. I first became familiar with the Music Together program at my school with Miss Katie. It was immediately one of my favorite parts of the week! I had the pleasure of attending Music Together teacher training in September of 2016, and apprenticed with Miss Katie the following fall. I have a deep appreciation for the science and developmental theory behind the Music Together program, as well as the fact that it fits in so well with the Montessori philosophy. I am thrilled to be a part of the Family Music Time team!

photo Janey Kennedy - Assistant to the Director

Originally from Ohio, Janey was the Director of Human Resources for a multi-state construction company where she was responsible for all personnel aspects for up to 850 employees. Beginning in 2009, she and her husband would spend the winters in Florida before returning to work full time for the spring, summer and fall. When the “winter break” became longer and longer for the Kennedy family, Janey left her employment up north for the sunshine of Florida.

When asked to join the Family Music Time team, Janey jumped at the opportunity to try something different. Working with the families has been so much fun! As the Assistant to the Director, Janey gets involved in everything from enrollments, newletters, special events….you name it! If you have any questions or need any help with your enrollments, birthday parties or anything, do not hesitate to contact Janey for assistance.
